Both woven and wonwoven geotextiles are used to separate the sub base from the sub grade, to prevent the intermixing of granular aggregate (e.g. in a road base), while maintaining the required construction thickness of a project.
Expensive mineral aggregates are therefore prevented from moving into the sub grade soil. Additionally, due to traffic over the sub base material the separation geotextile prevents any type of soil piping up into the aggregate sub base and thus changing the sub base performance properties, e.g bearing capacity, frost resistance, etc.
