Fibertex Nonwovens A/S
Fibertex geotextiles applied for effective membrane protection and drainage systems at the coal yard stock and ash dumps at the Medupi Power Station.
A total of more than 1.7 million m2 of heavy grade polypropylene nonwovens was installed as protection of membranes against puncture and to provide effective drainage of leachate from the ash dumps.
Enviromental concerns related to potential impact from ash leachate called for construction of lined ponds protected with heavy grade and highly durable Fibertex polypropylene geotextiles to protect the membrane against damage and puncture during construction as well as throughout the service life time of the deposits.
Additionally, drainage systems were installed to control and collect the leachate for treatment.
Fibertex Geotextiles provided effective filter layers able to retain fine particles without clogging.
